Backyard Life · Duckling Hill’s Travelogue Trial Day Activity Review
20.06.2026

On 24 May (Sunday), we co-organised the Backyard Life · Duckling Hill’s Travelogue Trial Day in collaboration with the Vocational Training Council (VTC) and CityUnseen. Duckling Hill backyard trail is a trail with a unique character. As it is situated near several public housing estates, it has become a popular spot for local residents to relax and exercise. Consequently, the trail is dotted with facilities built by residents themselves, as well as items that bear the marks of their daily lives. Through guided tours and activity-based tasks, we aimed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the Duckling Hill, appreciate its connections with the surrounding area, and discover the unique facilities and scenery along the trail, thereby fostering a greater appreciation for Hong Kong’s backyard trails.

The event attracted over a dozen young people and local residents. Participants not only deepened their understanding of the history of Duckling Hill, but also realised that hiking offers more than just a conventional form of exercise; it provides a different perspective and approach to exploring history and the connections between people and place. The response to the event was very positive, with participants expressing a hope for more similar ‘Backyard Trails’ activities in the cooler months ahead, allowing them to continue exploring other backyard trails in Hong Kong.
